The Memphis Redbirds have revealed their new logo.
It’s actually just the St. Louis Cardinals’ logo.
Because – in addition to being their AAA affiliate – the Redbirds are now owned by the St. Louis Cardinals. So they’ve decided to share a logo, almost. Obviously Memphis’ logo will say Memphis instead of St. Louis. Otherwise, all the graphics, uniforms, and branding will be the same.
I don’t particularly like the move, for a few reasons:
(a) I’m a Cubs fan.
(b) There are actually no other reasons.
Memphis has always been a Cardinals town. My father is a Cardinals fan. My brother in law is a Cardinals fan – which means the next generation of my family has Cardinal fans in it. Many of my friends are Cardinals fans. This is all disgusting.
The Cardinals have won 3 World Series Championships in my life time. Even more disgusting.
Local sports radio broadcasts all Cardinals games.
Now I have to see their logo around town?
It’s a good thing my Cubs are about to win the world series. Seriously. In the 1989 movie Back to the Future 2, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) had traveled into the future – to 2015. In the (then) future, he discovered the 2015 World Series Champion – The Chicago Cubs.
So we’ve got that going for us.
Confession: Actually, as much as I hate / envy the Cardinals, it’s actually a very beautiful logo. One of the best in sports.
